Online gambling, in particular social casino gambling is now more popular in the UK and Germany than anywhere else in the world.
New research from Socialnomics, almost 20% of the time spent playing online casino games, is conducted through social networking sites in both of the countries.
People are also using their mobiles more for online gambling, particularly in Germany.
It is thought that revenue from mobile gaming in Germany will double by 2015.
Roughly 81 million people worldwide play social games on a daily basis. In the UK players tend to return regularly, according to Socialnomics over 60% of UK social gamblers play at least once a day.
The market is developing rapidly and its growth is expected to do the same. Research from Transparency Market Research suggests that there will be roughly 44% more social gamers by 2015 than there are now.
Between 2010 and 2011 the number of online gamblers grew by 32%. In the UK 15% of the total internet market is online gaming.
If growth rates remain at the current rate global gaming revenue is expected to reach $117.9 billion by 2015. At present social gaming in the UK contributes $446.4 million to the global total of $1.6 billion.
