The casino giant Genting looks as if it may close another UK casino which would result in the loss of 41 jobs.
According to a company spokesman, Genting has started a 30-day consultation period over the future of the Friar Gate, Derby casino and the staff which it employs.
If the casino closure goes ahead then Genting will give the staff the chance to apply for jobs at the nearby Riverlights Genting Casino.
The spokesperson said that the closure is being considered “taken following the successful £6 million development of Genting’s new premises in Derby – Genting Club Riverlights, which was completed in November 2011.”
According to the spokesperson the decision is in line with Genting’s strategy of investment and “commitment to improving quality across the provincial estate”.
He said that the company is looking forward to continuing to invest in its properties with the aim of improving the customer experience.
Recently Genting decided to close the Fox Poker Club with immediate effect, shortly after the Genting Poker Series Grand Final. However, the club is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment and will re-launch as a new Genting casino.
