William Hill has signed a deal with the New Jersey racetrack Monmouth Park in expectation of changes to the sports betting laws in the state. If the New Jersey government wins its case against the major sports leagues then it will be allowed to enact new sports betting legislation.
William Hill are hoping to be the first to be able to provide sports betting services to Monmouth Park. Until that happens, William Hill will be providing sponsorship to the $1 million Haskell Invitational race which will be taking place on July 28th.
Monmouth Park said in a statement that the deal was “long term” but did not provide any further details.
The Chief Executive of William Hill US, Joe Asher, said, “One day sports betting will be legal in New Jersey. When it is, William Hill will be there. In the meantime, we are really excited to sponsor the William Hill Haskell Invitational, one of the Americas’ great races for three-year-olds at one of America’s great racetracks.”
New Jersey is scheduled to meet the sports leagues in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals next month on June 26th.
