The Nottingham based gaming group, Gala Coral, has sold off the last of its UK casinos to Double Diamond Gaming. In May 2013 Gala Gaming sold its casinos to the Rank Group for £179 million to make the Rank Group Britain’s largest casino operator, however, the deal excluded four casinos based in Aberdeen, Bristol, Cardiff and Teesside after a ruling from the Competition Commission. Now these four casinos and a Dundee casino license have been sold for an undisclosed sum.
Carl Leaver, Gala’s Chief Executive, said, “This transaction concludes the exit of our casino interests in the UK and is a continuation of our strategy to focus on growing our core operations.”
Double Diamond’s managing director Duncan Savage said that the company is delighted to have acquired the casinos, “The acquisition is a continuation of our strategy to build a high-quality casino group in the UK.” Savage went on to say that it builds on the company’s successful acquisition and re-launch of the Rainbow Casino in 2010. He said that they are planning to re-launch the newly acquired casinos over the Christmas period.
