A poker player from Birmingham is being sought by Spanish police after he disappeared from his Costa del Sol mansion having allegedly stolen over €3 million from investors.Nigel Goldman is under investigation form the Guardia Civil and Action Fraud, the UK’s fraud and internet crime reporting center.
In the last three weeks the only trace of Goldman has been a text message he sent to a former employer which read, “I did not set out to be a thief.”
In his own book, ‘High Stakes: How I blew £14 million’ Goldman reveals that he has been in prison twice for fraud. However, this time he claims that he has been duped by his brokers who were running a Ponzi scheme with everyone’s money.
Goldman previously made his name at some of the world’s biggest poker tournaments where he won thousands including over $17,000 from the EPT Barcelona € 5,000 + 300 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event in 2011.
Goldman has admitted that he owes £658,000. However, lawyers acting for investors claim that he owes far more, as much as €3 million.
