Derren Brown the star magician and illusionist was banned from playing blackjack at Birmingham’s The Broadway Plaza Casino when he decided to try his luck in the company of friends at one of the casino’s private tables.
It is not the first time that the famed showman was turned away from a gambling establishment as many casinos fear his card counting skills would undermine the fairness of the game.
Mr Brown commented: “I went in after the show and sat down to play blackjack. They were very nice, served me food, but they wouldn’t let me play. So I watched the others for a bit and then left. I was escorted out by a member of staff and the manager”.
Despite the interruption to his evening Mr Brown seemed in good spirits as he followed his friends’ game.
It is not surprising that Brown was turned down by the casino as he is well known for his ability to persuade and trick even the most vigilant and sceptical of audiences, showcasing his talent in popular TV shows such as Trick or Treat and Trick of the Mind.
