
Niall McNamee the Offaly football player has spoken out about his gambling addiction and the extent to which it disrupted his life. McNamee has written a number of blog posts on the subject and in the most recent entry he said that he lost €200,000 to gambling.
In the blog McNamee has gone into detail about the extents he would go to in order to feed his habit, he writes, “In August of 2011 I sold my car for half what it was worth. My plan was to use the money to go Gambling and clear off all my debts. I lost it within a week.”McNamee describes how at the time he would try and put on a show for his family and friends so they could see he “was doing well in life when the truth of the matter was I hated myself.”
His blog, titled “2 years, 1 day at a time” has caused a huge reaction online with hundreds reading his story.
Ultimately it is a tale of success which anyone who suffers from similar problems can take heart in. Two years ago McNamee started attending gamblers anonymous and he has since turned his life around.
