Ladbrokes are running a special betting market on the first major sporting events of the year.
With odds of 5/2 the favourite for first major event for next year is Andy Murray winning a major tennis competition. Not too far behind is Rory McIlroy, the chances of the the golfing star winning a major competition is set at 5/1.
Both sports stars have been in the news recently. McIlroy was in the news over the weekend having to deny that his was engaged to his girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki.
The rumours started after she was photographed wearing a large sapphire and diamond ring.
However, Wozniacki said that “It was a Christmas present and it fit on this finger”. She promised to let the public know if and when they do get engaged.
Murray hit the headlines after receiving the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year’s Honours list.
Some have claimed that he deserved a knighthood as was awarded to Bradley Wiggins and Ben Ainslie; however, Murray said that he has to accomplish more before he can join them.
Now the race is on to see which of the two can bag the first major victory of the year, McIlroy starts the season in Abu Dhabi this month while Murray has the Australian Open.
