Richard Hughes is favourite to win the 2013 Flat Jockeys Championship and retain his title with odds of 1/20 at Paddy Power. His closest rival is Ryan Moore with odds of 8/1.
Last year Hughes’ victory proved to be costly for many bookies, William Hill reportedly lost over £100,000 when he won seven out of the eight races at Windsor last year. However, after his victory William Hill’s spokesman, Richard Thomas, was full of praise for the jockey saying he “fully deserves all the accolades this season for his achievements on the track.
He has long been considered the best jockey of his generation not to win the title, and that issue has been solved. With the firepower from Richard Hannon unlikely to diminish in 2013, Richard is a deserved favourite for the 2013 championship.”
As the odds show, Hughes has had a successful year so far and has frequently left his opponents far behind. However, earlier this year Hughes did express some fears about Ryan Moore, “Ryan was upsides me last year when he got injured. He can ride near whatever he wants in most races. He’ll be very hard to beat, if Ryan wants it.”
