The website PokerStars has reached a deal with the Hippodrome, the UK’s largest casino, which will see PokerStars open its own B&M poker room.
As a result the existing poker room at the Hippodrome will be renovated and carry the PokerStars brand.
PokerStars is planning a series of special events and tournaments in the new room with the tournament schedule beginning early next year.
According to the Head of Corporate Communications at PokerStars, Eric Hollreiser, PokerStars has taken an equity investment in the Hippodrome as part of the deal.
This is only the second land casino that PokerStars has associated itself with, the first being the Grand Waldo in Macau.
The Group Strategy Director for PokerStars, Guy Templer, said that PokerStars “will give poker players the same great poker experience, live 24/7 in the heart of London that they get from PokerStars online.”
The Hippodrome has also struck a deal Microgaming which will see Microgaming software used for games within the casino. The new Hippodrome website will have casino games powered by Microgaming and poker run by PokerStars.
Roger Raatgever, Microgaming’s CEO, said that the company is “pround to have been selected as the exclusive provider of online gaming software to the iconic London brand The Hippodrome.”
