Despite the fact that the Wii U is being launched into a climate where people are moving away from consoles and focusing more on mobile games, it is still expected to sell well over the holiday period.
Research firm HIS iSuppli predict that the new console will sell 56.7 million units in its first four years. Advance orders have sold out and there are 500,000 people on the waiting list at GameStop Corp.
The console has two controller options, a new tablet-like controller called the GamePad or a traditional Wii remote.
The GamePad can be used as a screen and also serves as a remote control for the rest of the console.
The Wii U is Nintendo’s first step into the HD world and in some ways is just catching up with Microsoft and Sony.
It is expected that it will be sometime before the dual-screen gaming concept sinks in with consumers and only then will the console’s popularity really be tested.
